The VVFA GU13 95 Select had the opportunity to play some very high level competition in this years Premier Invitational. In our group play bracket there were two State Champions, one from Boise Idaho, and one from New Mexico. Both games on Saturday ended up as draws after VVFA first took the lead. We felt that we should have won both games, but defensive errors had probably cost us a chance of advancing. We learned later on Saturday evening that the final game in our group also ended in a draw (1-1) so we had advanced on goals scored. The semi-final on Sunday saw us play another State Champion, this time from Utah. It was a well played game by both sides that ended up in a 0-0 draw. We went to a penalty kick shoot-out, and in the ninth round, our keeper Megan Delaney made the save that put us through to the final. What an exciting game! In the finals we faced yet another State Champion in Neusport 95 Green. It was a very physical game which we ended up losing 3-0. Overall an outstanding tournament for the girls who should be proud of the great results against top level teams.
